Soldiers In Cyprus Remember Their Battle Honours

Troops from the 2nd Battalion Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment (2 PWRR) based in Cyprus have attended a special service to consecrate a new Regimental colour.

Once a focal point in battle, the colour flag bears the battle honours of 2 PWRR and its antecedent regiments - from Mafeking to Malaya.

2 PWRR's flag carries 40 honours. Among them is Tangier in 1662, the oldest battle honour of any regiment in the British Army.

It’s a symbol of tradition, of wars fought and battle honours won

The 2nd Battalion The Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment are the resident infantry battalion at Dhekelia in Cyprus.

They took over from the Second Fusiliers who were disbanded in 2014 as part of the army 2020 cutbacks.

2 PWRR were last in Cyprus in 2010 and have spent the last few years based in Woolwich carrying out public duties.
