Destroyer Crew Prepares For The Worst That Can Happen

Every Royal Navy warship has to go through a rigorous routine before it deploys to ensure the crew is ready for whatever may happen while they're away.

Currently the crew of HMS Duncan are under the microscope of Flag Officer Sea Training's staff at Devonport.

The ship's company has been tasked to evacuate British citizens from a fictional country where they're under threat from insurgents.

The team has to deal with dozens of people, many of them are frightened and bewildered, some are sick and vulnerable.

While they're busy there's a simulated attack.

Skilled make-up artists have been preparing mock casualties and the first aid teams have to spring into action to provide life-saving treatment. 

HMS Duncan suffered an embarrassing loss of power in November last year while taking part in an international exercise off Devonport.

All six of the Daring class destroyers are to get a major upgrade of their propulsion systems.
