HMS Spey travels through South China Sea as HMS Tamar returns to sea for FOST training

HMS Tamar returns to sea for FOST training

HMS Spey has travelled through the much-disputed South China Sea in accordance with international law.

The River-class offshore patrol vessel shared a post on X stating it had travelled through the waterway "in accordance with UNCLOS" – the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.

In the post, the ship's X account said it "underlines the UK's commitment to international law and to upholding a free, open and stable South China Sea".

It comes after the ship exercised in Malaysian waters for Exercise Bersama Shield 25.

The tactical integration exercise was hosted by the Royal Malaysian Navy, with around 800 military personnel from the UK, Australia, Malaysia, New Zealand and Singapore taking part.

As HMS Spey continued her international exploits, her sister ship finally returned to sea for Fleet Operational Sea Training (FOST).

HMS Tamar shared a post on X that showed the ship at sea conducting the training, including videos of the ship's RIB.

"It's taken a lot of hard work by all, but the wait is finally over — Tamar is back at sea and conducting FOST training!" the post read.

It comes after the ship was in for a refit, including a fresh new dazzle paint job.
