HMS Trent is finally back in her home port of Portsmouth after spending the past five years carrying out drug-busting missions and keeping a watchful eye on a Russian warship.

The River-class offshore patrol vessel did return to UK waters for the first time in four years in June - but did not get to dock in her home port in Hampshire.

Instead, she was tasked with shadowing the Russian frigate Admiral Grigorovich in the English Channel, before heading off for essential training.

Prior to that she had been on deployment in the Caribbean, where she carried out numerous drugs busts, preventing illegal substances reaching the UK and Europe.

The crew often worked alongside the US Coast Guard and US maritime patrol aircraft.

HMS Trent also had personnel on board who specialise in disaster relief - and they were able to offer support in region during hurricane season.

HMS Trent was also deployed to the Mediterranean to support Nato on its international security mission - and spent three years near the West African coast, taking part in security patrols and supporting allies in the region.

She visited Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal, Gambia and Cape Verde, and joined multinational training exercises working with her international partners.

More recently, she spent seven months in dry dock in Malta to receive her new dazzle camouflage paintwork.

The ship is expected to be in Portsmouth for a short stop as part of her regeneration period.
