Royal Naval Air Reserve Branch commissioned as HMS Pegasus

The Royal Naval Air Reserve Branch has been commissioned as HMS Pegasus.

It is the first naval unit commissioned under a King since 1952, and it follows 43 years of operational support to the Royal Navy.

It is one of the biggest units in the Royal Naval Reserve, with around 320 personnel.

The ceremony at RNAS Yeovilton included a Royal Guard and a display from the Black Cats Helicopter Display Team.

The latest HMS Pegasus is a stone frigate, meaning a naval establishment on land, but there have been four ships given the name throughout history.
