Benedict Cumberbatch features in new Bear Grylls TV series

Bear Grylls has posed for pictures with actor Benedict Cumberbatch who features in his new series, Running Wild With Bear Grylls: The Challenge.

Grylls posted a photo of the two of them together as he thanked the "incredible" Royal Marines and Royal Navy for their support with the filming of the show.

In a tweet, the honorary Royal Marines Colonel posted a picture with Cumberbatch, who features in an episode that takes place around the Isle of Skye.

The adventurer and Chief Scout said: "It's an epic one – even got a nuclear submarine extraction!".

According to the Disney Plus writeup about the episode, "Bear Grylls takes prolific Marvel superstar and venerated actor Benedict Cumberbatch on an adventure across the Isle of Skye in Scotland".

"They descend massive sea cliffs and brave freezing waterfalls.

"Bear teaches Benedict unique survival skills and surprises Benedict by connecting him to a part of his past with a once-in-a-lifetime experience."

In another episode, Grylls takes singer-actress Cynthia Erivo to the Brecon Beacons in Wales, where he trained as a reservist in 21 SAS (Reserve).

Throughout the series, he teaches his celebrity guests, who also include Bradley Cooper and Russell Brand, "a key set of survival skills they will then have to master on their own under a high-intensity moment to earn their extraction from the wilderness".

"Fears will be conquered, and limits will be tested."

The new season premieres on the National Geographic channel in the US on 9 July 2023.
