British Troops 'Attacked In Russian Propaganda Plot'
The Army is investigating whether a fight involving two British soldiers in Latvia was a Russian plot to discredit the UK forces.
According to the Daily Telegraph, there are claims an attack on two unnamed members of the Grenadier Guards in Riga appeared to have been "set up".
The soldiers were allegedly eating at a McDonalds when they were confronted by a local gang.
The ensuing brawl was reportedly captured on camera by a film crew who appeared to be already in position.
After the fight, a Latvian accompanying the soldiers is said to have followed the film crew to a media outlet that is known to be sympathetic to Russia.
A source told the newspaper:
"Our assessment is that this is clearly a set up: 'Lets go and make these guys look like thugs and film it.'"
An Army spokesperson told the MailOnline: "We are aware of an incident involving two soldiers in Riga.
"The circumstances are being investigated and it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time."
The news comes as British forces joined NATO in bolstering regular exercises to Eastern Europe to reassure alliance members concerned by Russia.
Russia has criticised the build-up and warned British troops could be subject to spying during tours in the area.
