Calls For Public Inquiry Into Deepcut Issues
There are calls for a public inquiry into why the Army failed in its duty of care to recruits at a barracks where four young soldiers lost their lives.
It comes days after a coroner ruled that Private Cheryl James (pictured above) shot herself intentionally at Deepcut barracks in 1995, and after another recruit from that time spoke to Forces TV about how she was raped during an exercise in the late 1990s.
The Army has said things have moved on from that time, but there are still those who say it remains a problem, with those calling for a future inquiry hoping it will look at issues of historic sexual, mental and physical abuse in the military.
