City Wins Battle To Protect WWI Memorials

An English cathedral city has taken action to protect its historic memorials, which honour those who lost their lives in the First World War.

St Albans, in Hertfordshire, has won listed building status for its street monuments, meaning its memorials will now be protected from development.

Soaring house prices in the ancient city, with semi-detached properties regularly selling for £1 million, had put them under threat.
