Coastal Artillery Fort For Sale

A Napoleonic artillery fort has been put up for sale.

For offers over £550,000, Thorne Island Fort off the coast of Pembrokeshire can be yours.

It was built between 1852 and 1854 to defend Milford Haven, which at the time was a large naval base, over concerns of the growing strength of the French Navy under Napoleon.

Sitting on 2.5 acres off the Angle Peninsula, it was designed with a seaward-facing battery for five RBL 7-inch Armstrong guns and four 68-pounder guns.

The landward side of the fort consists of a defensible barracks with a parapet overlooking the entrance.

It has had a number of owners since it was sold by the state in 1932 and was once earmarked as a luxury hotel.

However, it has not been lived in for more than 10 years and has fallen into disrepair.

Estate agency Knight Frank says "it is envisaged a new owner will wish to reconfigure the accommodation".

According to the agency, the grade II listed fortress has 10 bedrooms, 3 reception rooms, 3 bathrooms, a garden and is "waterside".
