EXCLUSIVE: Marine A's Wife Hopes He'll Be Home For Christmas

The wife of a former Royal Marine convicted of murder has told Forces News of her hopes he'll be home for Christmas.

Judges are expected to be urged to free Sergeant Alexander Blackman this week.

It comes after an independent review concluded he faces the "real possibility" of having his murder conviction quashed after he was given leave to appeal following the presentation of new evidence.

It was in 2011 when the former Royal Marine, who was coming towards the end of a so-called 'tour from hell' in Afghanistan, shot dead a Taliban insurgent.

Two years later, he was convicted of murder.

His family then lost an appeal to have the conviction overturned, but his 10 year sentence was reduced to 8.

However, at the end of last year a report with new evidence was submitted to the Criminal Cases Review Commission.

Hundreds have repeatedly gathered in parliament square in support of Alexander Blackman - who was known as Marine A throughout the trial.
