Experts Building Bridges Between Forces And Communities Honoured

A team of military experts who've set out to improve the relationship between British forces overseas and local communities has been recognised at an award ceremony dating back more than 50 years.

The Defence Cultural Specialist Unit (DCSU) has been presented with the Firmin Sword of Peace.

The DCSU provides support to UK forces all over the world.

It was initially formed in 2010 to provide cultural support to commanders out in Afghanistan but has since become essential on operations.

The Firmin Sword of Peace is given to units that have gone above and beyond their normal duties to improve relations with their local community, either in the UK or overseas.

As well as operations in the Middle East the unit has also aided on migrant rescues and helped to support work against Al Shabab, Somali Pirates and Boko Haram.
