Forces Chefs Put To Test In Christmas Cake Competition

3rd Armoured Division has been involved in tough manoeuvres today – not on the battlefield, but in the kitchen.

Top chefs have been fighting it out to produce the best Christmas cake.

106 cakes of all shapes and sizes were being judged in the Christmas Cake Culinary Skills competition 2016.

The annual extravaganza allows the chefs to test their creative skills, within a strict framework.

The judges spent more than two hours examining and scoring the cakes – in a number of criteria, such as neatness and precision, novelty and innovation and creativity and originality.

Decorating a cake allows the chefs to practice their specialist skills like piping, flooding and moulding – which they don't do in their day to day work.

Soon the judging was complete and the winners were ready to be announced.

The overall competition winner took inspiration for a current, popular TV advert:

A real display of craftsmanship and skill on display – and likely a great inspiration for anyone who's planning to make their own cake in time for Christmas.
