The Gun That Takes Out Targets Over A Mile Away

A gun has been unveiled that can bring down targets from over a mile away.

Rather than blowing drones out of the sky, the DroneGun interferes with the device's signal from a distance of up to 1.2 miles.

The jammer, developed by DroneShield, disables a drone’s signals (including GPS and GLONASS positioning), taking control away from the pilot and forcing it to land or return to where it came from.

Controlling the landing can stop a drone carrying a weapon or explosive device from reaching its target.

It also blocks any video transmission back to the pilot, making it impossible to regain control.

Weighing just under a stone, and looking like something from The Terminator, it can reportedly be used without any training.

According to alphr.com, the CEO of DroneShield, Peter James, said the gun was intended for "a wide range of customers from government and military agencies to civil infrastructure to VIP protection".

The weapon is one of a number being developed in an attempt to stop drones, which are often bought on the high street, being adapted in order to attack sensitive targets such as airports.
