Hard Duck Training For The 52nd Infantry

Charlie Company, of the U.S 52nd Infantry Regiment (Long Range Surveillance), have received some noisy training assistance from the Washington National Guard.

One of their Chinook helicopter crews provided airlift support for 'helocast' training on American Lake outside of Joint Base Lewis-McChord.

Helocasting is a technique used to put small teams into operation areas via maritime insertion points.

Helicopters take up an altitude just above the water and an airspeed of 10 knots or less.

Operations where an inflatable is used are known as 'hard duck'.

Where the inflatable has to be transported partially-deflated the operations are known as 'soft duck'.
