Images Released Of RAF Jets Intercepting Russian Bombers

The Royal Air Force has released images of its jets intercepting Russian bombers this week as they headed towards British airspace.
 
Two supersonic Russian Tu-160 'Blackjack' aircraft were escorted south across the North Sea by RAF Typhoons scrambled from RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire.

It is believed the aircraft were with the Long Range Aviation branch of the Russian military. The bombers had strayed into the UK's "area of interest," but not British airspace, which they have never penetrated.

RAF jets have been scrambled over 50 times in the last six years to intercept Russian military aircraft.
 
The UK's airspace covers a 12-mile radius out from the coastline.
