Navy Women's Netball Side Take Team Of Year At Sports Awards

Netball swept the board at this year’s Royal Navy Sports Awards in Portsmouth.

They grabbed Team Of The Year as well as two of their number claiming top sportswoman and official of the year.

The awards were held at HMS Nelson with special guest, triple Olympic rowing champion Pete Reed, on hand to present the prizes.

After claiming their first inter-services title in 23 years, it was little surprise that Navy Netball took the team of the year award.

In the tournament’s 60th anniversary year, the victory was the culmination of three years’ hard work and preparation

Eight members of the Netball team have now gone on to represent the UK Armed forces team in international fixtures and the sport also featured in the Official of the year nominations.

Netball again featured in the sportswoman of the year category.

Sportsman of the year was a contest between Rugby Union, Paragliding and Triathlon – and the endurance event won out.

Royal Marine George Crotty was crowned young sportsperson of the year .

He wasn't actually there instead he's in Australia with the navy boxing team so his dad was here to pick up his award.
