Our personnel have risen to meet challenges this year, CSOC chief says
General Sir Jim Hockenhull, Cyber and Specialist Operations Command's (CSOC) commander, has wished his personnel a happy Christmas in a message recorded by BFBS Forces News.
CSOC's chief, who will be replaced by Lieutenant General Sir Rob Magowan next year, also heaped praise on the professionalism of his charges.
"I really just wanted to say to all of our people, how grateful I am for the hard work, the dedication and the professionalism with which you've conducted your operations," Gen Sir Jim told BFBS Forces News.
"It's been a remarkable year for us as we have transitioned from Strategic Command (StratCom) to Cyber and Specialist Operations Command."
StratCom changed into CSOC back in September as the Ministry of Defence combined all of the country's cyber and specialist capabilities under one roof.
The ex-Chief of Defence Intelligence highlighted that his troops had met the challenges of the year head-on.
"But, it's also been a year that I know has made enormous demands on all of you," he said. "And the wonderful thing, I think, is how you've risen to meet those challenges.
"We have always been an organisation, keeping the nation safe 24/7, 365 days of the year.
"And we do that as a consequence of your dedicated contribution."
CSOC merges several aspects of security under one umbrella, including cyber operations, medical support, special forces, education and defence attachés overseas.
The so-called military's fourth service is run by more than 26,000 people across 130 global sites and has its headquarters in Northwood, London.
