Prince Harry Hands Invictus Gold To Life Saving Medical Team
Prince Harry has handed Elizabeth Marks' Invictus gold medal to the medical team that saved her life.
The former Apache co-pilot fulfilled his Royal promise to US soldier Sergeant Elizabeth Marks to present the medal team from Papworth Hospital.
In 2014 Staff Sergeant Marks fell ill after having flown to the UK to compete.
She was rushed to hospital after she collapsed with a serious lung condition
Marks was transferred to the specialist heart and lung Papworth Hospital in Cambridgeshire where she was placed on the critical care unit and in an induced coma for 10 days.
She said:
"I landed in London and became very ill very rapidly. I was in hospital in London and went into respiratory distress syndrome. They shipped a team down from Papworth who put me on to ECMO [extracorporeal membrane oxygenation] life support and that ultimately saved mylife."
