SAS Soldiers Named In Honours 'Blunder'

SAS Soldiers Accidentally Named In Queen’s Birthday Honours
An inquiry has been launched after two serving members of the SAS were accidentally named in an official online Queen’s Birthday Honours list.

The identities of Special Forces personnel are protected by strict official protocols.

But this didn't prevent the names of the two reservists being inadvertently published along with 152 others in an official online notice of those being honoured. A 'senior source' is quoted as saying in the Sun:
"This is an unforgivable mess. Someone has not bothered to check the list and simply released it without any due diligence."
"This is down to civil servants at the MoD who deal with the public release of material to the internet.

"An inquiry has been launched to see how such details were processed and released without prior checking."
"It was a blunder pure and simple, and one that cannot be repeated."
One of the SAS members, a major, was awared an MBE, while the other, a warrant officer, was given the Queen's Volunteer Reserves Medal (QVRM).

The list was withdrawn and the names deleted after the error was spotted. A spokesman for the Ministry of Defence said:
"We are aware of an error regarding Queen’s Birthday Honours recipient details published online on 11 June. The error was soon identified and the list was taken down."
