Shock On The Rock As MoD Policeman Downs Football Giants

An MoD police officer and his part-time football team have beaten Scottish giants Celtic in Gibraltar.

By day, Lee Casciaro is a conscientious officer with the Gibraltar Defence Police, patrolling his base on the Rock; by night, he is a deadly forward for part-timers the Lincoln Red Imps, patiently stalking any professional team cocky enough to cross his path.

Celtic had travelled to Gibraltar expecting only a token challenge, but they got much more than they bargained for.

Mr. Casciaro said he knew the defenders were a bit slower than him and couldn't keep up, so he "popped the ball over them and put it past the keeper".

The visitors did manage to dominate possession from the start of the game, but struggled to find their rhythm, on a less-than-ideal artificial surface and in the face of a tigerish Red Imps side who defended well.

Celtic needed to up the ante in the second half but it was the Red Imps who struck first.

The Casciaros and their team now have to see if they can hold their lead in the second leg at Celtic Park next Wednesday.
