Soldier Killed At RAF Bombing Range

A British Army soldier has been killed during a training exercise at the Royal Air Force's Tain bombing range in the Scottish Highlands.

An investigation is underway into the incident which occurred on Tuesday evening and the area remains sealed off. A spokesman for Police Scotland has confirmed there were no other casualties and that the incident was 'contained'.

An Army spokesperson said: "We can confirm the death of a soldier at Tain Range Field Firing Area, Scotland.
"It is being investigated by Police Scotland and it is not appropriate for us to comment further. Next of kin has been informed and our thoughts are with the soldier's family at this time."
Situated on the Dornoch Firth, the Tain bombing range is used by British and NATO aircrews to conduct low-level bombing exercises.

The site, 30 miles north of Inverness, also houses rifle and small arms ranges often used by the British Army.
