Soldier Pays To Replace Veteran's Stolen Medals

A soldier has paid for a veteran's stolen medals to be replaced.
 
The Arctic Convoy veteran had a stolen medal replaced for free by Russia, but was told he would have to pay for British replacements.

Thieves escaped with five of Geoff Mellor's medals from his home in Yorkshire. 
 
The 89-year-old's Russian medal replacement was sent with a thank you note from VLadimir Putin's personal office. 
 
But the Ministry of Defence wants £85. In a statement it said:
"Replacements are... provided at cost. The MOD makes no profit from replacement medals."
This sparked quite a reaction in the current forces generation.
