Soldiers Honour Fallen Comrade In Gruelling Challenge

Soldiers from the 3rd Battalion The Rifles have taken part in a special event in memory of a fallen comrade.

The Chesterman trophy was established after the death of Lieutenant Andrew Chesterman in Afghanistan 4 years ago.

The trophy sees soldiers carry 25 kilos of kit around the Pentland Hills.

There's a 10-mile weighted march as well as rifle and pistol ranges, the 3 RIFLES competition remembers one of their own, Lieutenant Andrew Chesterman, an exemplary platoon commander and leader, he was killed on operations in Afghanistan in 2012.

Every year since his death platoons from across 3 RIFLES take part in the event, retracing the routes Andrew Chesterman once tread, both with his platoon and in his own time.

More than 190 soldiers took part in the event, working together in their platoons to get each other through.

Through this competition, the memory of Lieutenant Andrew Chesterman will long continue at 3 RIFLES, as the next generation of young riflemen are taught his story.
