The Straight And Arrow: Beating PTSD With Archery

A former soldier who discovered archery as part of his rehab after being medically discharged from the Army has launched a club to share his passion for the sport.

Richie O’Connell, who served with the Cheshires and Mercian Regiment for 12 years, set up Kyujutsu Archery Club to give others a chance to enjoy the sport as much as he does.

His brother-in-law introduced him to archery by getting him to visit his friend's club.

The sport helped Richie to deal with his PTSD.

Next came an instructors course through Help for Heroes, and then Richie and his brother-in-law were setting up their own club. One club member said:
"The guys have done a great job here. They've got a load of strangers together, introduced them to the sport, everyone seems to love it."
The class is on Sundays at Brookvale Recreation Centre in Runcorn.
