Hackers hit Army's official social media accounts

The official Twitter account of the British Army has been hacked and bombarded followers with promotions of giveaways to win non-fungible tokens (NFTs). 

The account's name and profile picture changed multiple times during the breach.

Several posts were made from the account encouraging followers to enter competitions and giveaways.

The British Army's YouTube channel also appeared to have been compromised.

An Army spokesperson said: "We can confirm that earlier today there was a breach of the Army's Twitter and YouTube accounts and an investigation is underway. 

"We take information security extremely seriously and whilst we have now resolved the issue an investigation is ongoing and it would be inappropriate to comment further."

The Army regained control of its Twitter and YouTube accounts late on Sunday night.

They later tweeted: "Apologies for the temporary interruption to our feed. We will conduct a full investigation and learn from this incident. Thanks for following us and normal service will now resume."
