Army v Navy In Boxing Bout For Scottish Glory
There was inter-service pride at stake as the Royal Navy took on the Army in the Northern Regions boxing contest at HMS Neptune in Faslane.
The Army were looking for their third consecutive win in the competition that decides who has bragging rights in Scotland.
The action packed night got off to a great start for the hosts as Able Seaman Jake Coughlin faced Rifleman Jake Welsh-Davidson.
It was up to the judges to separate the evenly match opponents - with Coughlin triumphing and getting The Royal Navy off to the perfect start.
The army have been crowned the Northern Regions champions for the last two years and they soon levelled things up on the night.
Rifleman Luke Nevin proved too much for Able Seaman Michael Rendall in their Middle-Weight contest - with the match being stopped by the referee in the first round.
The first of the Light - Heavy Weight matches was up next - as Able Seaman Eric Gilbert took on Lance Corporal Conner Wilson.
Despite it going the distance - Gilbert put the navy back in the lead with a unanimous points victory over his rival.
A head injury didn't stop Lance Corporal Danny Kelly from making it two all - as he defeated marine Gordon Sinclair.
Able Seaman Peter Rowlands faced Rifleman Chris Leveridge in the night’s second welter-weight match.
It was another evenly-matched contest that went the distance - but Leveridge triumphed over his opponent in the end and retained the Northern Regions title for the Army for the third year in a row.
It was up to marine Graham Rowley to restore some pride for the hosts by preventing an outright win on the night.
He fought fellow Light Heavy Weight Rifleman John Boulter in the final match of the evening.
Both fighters gave a good account of themselves in the ring.
Although Boulter matched his opponent at times - it was Rowley who really impressed with the performance of the evening - earning him the best boxer of the night title.
It was the Army’s boxers who were celebrating at the end - clinching their third consecutive title.
However, there are already plans for a rematch between the two rivals taking place in Edinburgh later this year.
