Soldier battling arthritis puts on impressive win at Army Road Race Championships

Watch: The best of Army cycling takes to the saddle at the Army Road Race Cycling Championships.

Soldiers representing cap badges from across the Army took to the saddle at the Army Road Race Cycling Championships at the iconic Lee Valley Velodrome.

The men's event saw riders complete 80 laps of the one-mile circuit, where Corporal Sean Dodsworth overcame his arthritis condition to take the men's title.

The 2 Yorks soldier, who only took up the sport three years ago, was diagnosed with spondyloarthritis, a complicated form of arthritis that has prevented him from furthering his military career.

The condition, however, did not prevent him from winning the men's title, making his performance all the more impressive.

The women's race saw an exciting conclusion with three riders putting themselves into title contention.

The trio included Army reservist Kimmae Payn, who recently landed herself on the Great Britain squad for this year's World Championships this summer, as well as Laura Furness who will compete at the European Masters Games in Finland.

But in the end, it was Sergeant Furness who took the women's race title, beating out Payn who finished second.
