Mercians overpower The Royal Tank Regiment to win Army Major Units Cup Final
1st Battalion The Mercian Regiment have beaten The Royal Tank Regiment 3-0 to win the Army Major Units Cup Final.
The sides contended with a slippery surface, owing to a damp evening at Aldershot Military Stadium, but nevertheless traded numerous chances throughout.
The initial phases were stop-start, as the referee ensured the players kept their discipline in a nervy opening to the decider.
The first half had chances at both ends, but it was Samuel Barber's clever footwork that took the Mercians ahead just before the break.

Barber made another chance soon afterwards, but his attempt, as that of Darreo Glasgow's for the opposition, didn't amount to anything and the sides went in at half-time with just a goal between them.
The second half started with lively play, both teams threatening in the box, but it wasn't until the 81st minute that the scoreboard changed - Watitemwa Mkandawire with the Mercians' second of the evening.
Mkandawire scored his second to complete a brace in the final moments to clinch the game – it enabled the Mercians to keep a clean sheet despite a valiant effort from the Royal Tank Regiment.
1st Battalion The Mercian Regiment experienced disappointment in the 2022 final, but not tonight.
Their captain Henry Latimer told BFBS Sport’s Jon Knighton: "I don’t really know what to say, I'm in a bit of disbelief. I think the boys deserved it, they worked hard. I don't know what to say, I'm still a bit shocked.
"We played well this season, we took that into the final. Well played to RTR, they were a good side, but it feels good."
