Royal Navy U23s win third consecutive Inter Services title

WATCH: Highlights as the RAF U23s travelled to Portsmouth to take on the Royal Navy.

The Royal Navy won the U23s Inter Services football title for the third consecutive year running with a 1-0 win against the Royal Air Force U23s at Victory Stadium, HMS Temeraire.

This is the Navy's first win under the management of Royal Marine Captain Stu Morgan, who took over from Lieutenant Commander Chris James last year.

Wet and slippery conditions saw both sides struggle to control the game in the first half, although both keepers pulled off some great saves.

The breakthrough came ten minutes into the second half when Rob Tucker put the Navy ahead with a close-range header.

With the momentum swinging in the Navy's direction, the RAF needed to level the scoreboard again to put themselves back into Inter Services title contention, but several chances didn't materialise for the light blues.

The Navy would not have welcomed the seven minutes of stoppage time added at the end, as the RAF played against the clock to salvage their Inter Services title hopes.

The RAF carried great defence in the final minutes but missed opportunities to level the scoreboard.

The Navy would go on to lift the Inter Services trophy for the third year running as well as the newly commissioned Richard Wilkinson Trophy.
