Forces Compete In Inter-Services Offshore Sailing Regatta

The inter-services offshore sailing regatta is taking place this week.

Four yachts from each service have completed the first part of competition, a race to Guernsey.

With seven crew per vessel, each force is racing two Victoria 34’s – the RAF and Navy each have another Vic crewed by reservists.

All three services also has a racing yacht - the 37-foot J/109 – in addition the Army have put in a Royal Signals yacht to complete the line-up of 12.

The Army were overall winners last year.

Under starters orders, both classes went off relatively smoothly as the teams headed for the channel islands.

After arriving in Guernsey, the sailors will compete in a couple of inshore events before returning overnight on Thursday.
