US Captain On Simpson Cup Defeat: 'GB Outplayed Us'

The captain of the US team has admitted that Team GB "outplayed" his side to win the Simpson Cup.

The two-day event saw the British team win their fourth title thanks to a winning scoreline of 11½ to 7½.

Mike Stafford is the leader of the US team and believes the right team won the trophy.

He said: "Our team is happy. We are proud of the Brits and of what they did. They worked hard and outplayed us.

"They are getting the trophy and they deserve it.

"It was a great experience to come over here. We did not get the trophy but we took back some memories that we will never forget."

Ian Bishop lifted the trophy for Team GB and the captain said he is "really proud" of his team.

He said: “It’s been absolutely amazing.

"They have battled hard and had a great win. It can literally be anyone who hits a winning putt, but the team effort put forward today was absolutely massive and brilliant."

Another major honour for Bishop was being able to play at St. Andrews which as hosted many major tournaments through the years.

"With the history, walking up the 18th hole and playing in front of the club house, you just don’t get better than that in golf."
