Grand Military Gold Cup ends in dramatic finale as shock contender stumbles
Major Will Kellard, riding Farceur De Large, has won the 2024 Grand Military Gold Cup at Sandown Park despite an incredible run from 80-1 outsider Captain Douglas White on Fil D'Ariane.
Capt White, who was the least favoured in the field before the race, took the lead early on and held on until the final corner.
During the race, former winners Lieutenant Billy Aprahamian and Bombardier Jody Sole were both unseated from their horses when they failed a jump leaving a three-horse race between Maj Kellard, Capt White and Trooper Lucy Westlake on bookies' favourite Rose of Arcadia.

Despite Fil D'Ariane’s impressive performance, he lost his stride in the final moments and was overtaken by both the winner and Rose of Arcadia to finish third.
Elsewhere, there were also falls for Lieutenant Commander Vicki Sollitt on Up Helly Aa King and Sergeant Nathan Rahman on I See You Well but every jockey walked away on their own accord and didn't need any medical attention.
