Inter Services Basketball: Who will slam dunk their way to victory?
For the very first time, BFBS will be broadcasting the Inter Services Basketball Championships with live coverage of the men's and women's championship deciding games on Sunday 23 April.
The championships are set to take place at the home of Army Basketball, the Aldershot Garrison Sports Centre, where the British Army will host the Royal Navy and the Royal Air Force.
The Inter Services is the pinnacle domestic event in the UKAF Basketball calendar, bringing together the best military basketball players from across the services.
The reigning men's champions are the Royal Navy, who will be looking to win their fifth successive Inter Services title under the watchful eye of their Head Coach, Royal Marine Major Marty Page.
Maj Page's success in guiding his team to a fourth successive Inter Services title last year saw him nominated for Coach of the Year at the 2022 Navy Sports Awards.
Last year, the Navy men fought two very close games against the Army, beating them 81-72, and an even tougher win against the RAF, with a 76-61 win.
The reigning women's champions are the Royal Air Force after their successful Inter Services outing last year, where they beat the Army 64-15 and the Navy by 12 points.
The Army, who last won the Inter Services in 2019, lost both their games against the Navy and the RAF last year.
The ladies in red will be looking to improve their performance this year to take back the title they lost last year.
The final matches of the men's and women's tournaments will be broadcast live on the Forces News YouTube channel and serving personnel can also watch on catch-up via BFBS TV.
Did you know?
Inter Services basketball began in 1949 with the Army men taking the victory before there was a 10-year hiatus, to which Inter Services basketball returned in 1960 with the RAF men winning the Inter Services.
Women's basketball was not included in the Inter Services until it was introduced in 1989, with the Army winning the maiden women's title.
The Army currently hold the most titles for the men and the women in the Inter Services, with 39 men's titles and 23 women's titles. The reds also hold the most titles for the U23 division, with 18 titles since it was introduced in 1990.
