Commander Matt Ellicott has been crowned Royal Navy squash champion in their centenary year after winning a thrilling open final at HMS Temeraire in Portsmouth.

Cdr Ellicott was the number one seed in the competition but faced off against a tough test in Lieutenant Commander Steve Warren, who won the first game 11-8.

Despite that, Ellicott stormed to victory taking the next three games to win the match 4-1.

Earlier, number two seed Lieutenant Commander Danielle Welsh won the women's title after a dominant performance against Lieutenant Commander Harriett Delbridge.

Lt Cdr Delbridge managed to defeat the number one seed of the women's competition in the semi-final but couldn't repeat the trick against Lt Cdr Welsh.
