Who To Watch From The Military At The Paralympics

A number of top military athletes will be aiming for medals at the Paralympics which start in Tokyo on Tuesday, 24 August.

The opening ceremony kicks off a festival of 12 days of action with Forces athletes such as cyclist Jaco Van Gass and powerlifter Micky Yule aiming to try to win a medal.

They are hoping to achieve similar success to Gunner Karriss Artingstall who became the first Army female boxer to win an Olympic medal last month.

Van Gass will be one of the first Forces stars competing at the event as his cycling track tournament opens the event on 25 August with a cycling road race starting on 31 August.

Wheelchair Rugby also begin their competition on the opening day with the RAF's Stu Robinson and ex-Army man Ryan Cowling representing Team GB.

On 26 August, the powerlifting events begin and Yule, who is an ex-Royal Engineers soldier, will be aiming for gold after winning at the 2016 Invictus Games.

RAF triathlete guide Senior Aircraftman Luke Pollard will start his Paralympic journey on 28 August.

He'll be trying to guide Dave Ellis to a medal and will be making his Paralympics debut.
