Carrie Roberts helps York Valkyrie to historic Super League win in final competitive fixture

Army Rugby League's Staff Sergeant Carrie Roberts has helped York Valkyrie retain the Betfred Women's Super League title in her final game before she steps back from competitive rugby.
The York-based outfit claimed the historic double in the Grand Final after beating St Helens 18-8 to become the first team to win back-to-back Super League titles.
SSgt Roberts, who serves in the Royal Electrical & Mechanical Engineers, was shifted to the wing in her final match where she played a pivotal role in her team's victory over her former club St Helens.
With the home advantage, St Helens led 8-6 at half time, but York came storming back in the second half to make Women’s rugby league history.
After winning everything with St Helens and playing for England in the World Cup, SSgt Roberts returned to her Army job in 2022 where she later signed for York Valkyrie in 2023.
York Valkyrie's win rounds up a glittering career for the Army staff sergeant who also played a pivotal role in the Army rugby set-up in both codes.

Writing in a post on social media, SSgt Roberts says that she "couldn't have dreamed of a better ending" to her competitive rugby career.
She said: "Now the dust has settled, I just want to say a massive thank you to everyone for making my last game one that I'll definitely never forget.
"What a way to finish by winning the Grand Final back to back with the absolute legends of York Valkyrie! I couldn't have dreamed of a better ending on my own terms.
"Lifting that trophy with my teammates and all the staff in front of our family, friends and fans, was something I'll remember for the rest of my life."
