Army women wins fifteenth consecutive Inter Services rugby league title
The British Army have won the women’s Inter Services rugby league championships for the fifteenth consecutive time after a storming 0-32 victory over the Royal Air Force in Wakefield.
The Army came into the title-decider a week after demolishing the Royal Navy in Hull in their opening fixture.
The RAF beat the Navy in Portsmouth a fortnight ago, but knew they had to step up if they were to defeat a dominant Army team.
The Army’s Isabel Bibby got the Army off to a flying start with a converted try to give the reds an early lead.
Her efforts were soon followed up by Charlotte Hill who scored a brace of tries minutes apart.
The tries then kept coming the more the Army’s confidence grew, with Manuqalo Komaitai adding her efforts with another dotted try for the reds.
With minutes before half time, Bibby scored her second try of the game to put the Army in the driving seat with a 0-26 lead at half time.
The RAF returned for the second half hoping to do something special to stop the Army in their tracks.
The light blues put on an impressive defensive display, halting the Army’s progress along the way.
But a hattrick of tries by Bibby sealed the deal for the Army as they win by a commanding 0-32 at full time.
The Army win their fifteenth consecutive Inter Services title without dropping a score the entire tournament for the second year running.
