
Captain Kat Matthews finishes as runner-up in Ironman World Championships in Nice

British Army athlete Captain Kat Matthews has finished second in the women's Ironman World Championships in Nice.
The Bristol-based Royal Army Medical Corps officer came home eight minutes behind Laura Philipp of Germany, who stormed to her maiden World Championship title, winning the event in eight hours, forty-five minutes and fifteen seconds.
It's the second time that Matthews has just missed out on the top spot.

She was runner-up at the 2021 World Championship's in St George, North America which was staged in 2022 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Fellow Army athlete Major Rosie Wild was also competing as part of her first World Championships.
She managed to finish the event and secured 30th place (out of 35 in the pro race) with a time of 10 hours, 24 minutes and 52 seconds.
