Army women put in ruthless performance to claim record win over Navy
The British Army women have retained the Babcock Trophy for the fourth consecutive year after a record win over the Royal Navy at the Allianz Stadium.
It was a dominant yet ruthless performance from the Army, who proved why they are the current title holders with a commanding 96-0 win - the highest-ever score in the annual fixture.
The Army hit the ground running in the opening first half – Guardsman Maluqalo Kamaitai getting the Army off to a strong start with her first try of the game, with Lance Corporal Courtney Pursglove adding the extras.
Then came a of flurry of tries for the team in red, including braces from LCpl Pursglove and Lieutenant Hannah Gilmour which lifted the Army to a dominant 50-0 lead come half time.
In the second half, the Army continued their march forward with an early try from their centre Lance Bombardier Amy Carr, before Bombardier Charlotte Tweddle swan dove over the line for their second try of the final 40.
More tries came from Gdsm Komaitai and from skipper Staff Sergeant Jade Mullen as the Army continued to clear off into the distance.
The Royal Navy put up a brave defence throughout as they continued to find their first try of the game, but at full time the British Army proved too strong for the Senior Service as they won the Babcock Trophy for the fourth year running with a dominant 96-0 win at the home of English Rugby.
Army flanker Sapper Lauren Brooks was awarded the Babcock Player of the Match award.
The women's Inter Service Championship title race will go on to the final game at Kingsholm Stadium in Gloucester, where the Army will attempt to defend their title against the Royal Air Force.
