Komaitai scores try on debut for Fijiana in Oceania Championship opener against Tonga

Army Rugby Union star Guardsman Manuqalo Komaitai has earned her first international cap for the Fiji Women's Rugby Team (Fijiana) after coming off the bench to score a try in their dominant 59-5 victory over Tonga.
Gdsm Komaitai of the Irish Guards came off the bench in the second half and immediately made an impact by scoring her first international try, as Fijiana ran in 10 tries to secure a commanding victory over their Pacific rivals.
It was the first crucial win for Fijiana in their 2025 Oceania Championship campaign as they now prepare to face Samoa on 14 June.
Speaking to Army Rugby Union, Gdsm Komaitai said: "It's an honour to represent Fiji and the British Army.
"I'm proud of where I come from, and I'm thankful for the support of my regiment and Army Rugby."
Gdsm Komaitai's international debut came after she delivered a stand-out performance for the British Army at the Inter Service Championships.
Her performance against the Royal Air Force at Kingsholm Stadium, where she scored an astonishing four tries, earned her the Player of the Match accolade and solidified her status as a key player in the squad.
Ahead of her selection, Gdsm Komaitai was also selected for national trials with Fiji ahead of the 2025 Women's Rugby World Cup, which is set to be held in England later this year.
A soldier in the Irish Guards, Gdsm Komaitai is the first Fijian woman to serve in the elite regiment tasked with guarding Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle, and took up rugby with the Army after completing her training in 2021 as a way of keeping fit.
