Army tennis players battle for singles honours at Army Tennis Championships
Army tennis player Private Marco Wright has been crowned this year's Army men's tennis champion after he beat his rival Angus McCaul in Aldershot.
Pte Wright, who serves with 4 PARA, beat his Household Cavalry Regiment rival 6-0, 6-3 to win his second men's singles title.
"At the moment I don't think it has sort of settled yet, I'm fairly content I'd say," he told BFBS.
He added: "My mum and dad haven't watched me play tennis in years and especially growing with them and then moving out to Portugal with me to start training out there on the clay, and my dad was just telling me that he's so happy to see me play again in front of him."
Pte Wright, who holds both British and Portuguese citizenship, used to play for Great Britain but, as far as Euro 2024 is concerned, he will be digging into his Portuguese roots and supporting Portugal in this year's tournament.
He said: "In terms of the Euros, I would probably say Portugal, I would probably be rooting for Portugal to win that."
In the women's tournament, Captain Holly Fleming claimed her maiden Army Women's tennis crown following her straight sets victory over Emma McMahon.
The Wiltshire-based doctor beat her Royal Signals rival 6-1, 7-5.
She said: "It's good to be near the top, it's a real honour and I think it's a reflection of obviously a lot of hard work that's gone on on the tennis court over the many years.
"I'm excited to tell my family, they will be proud!"
At the conclusion of the championships, Army tennis players will now turn their attention to the Inter Services Tennis Championships which takes place at the All England Lawn Tennis Club on 30 and 31 July.
