Phalanx Gatling gun: The last line of defence for Royal Navy warships

Watch: Phalanx, a warship's last line of defence.

Radar-guided, technologically advanced and computer-assisted, the Phalanx Close-In Weapon System is the last line of defence for Royal Navy warships.

The centrepiece of Phalanx is a six-barrelled, 20mm Gatling gun that can fire 75 armour-piercing rounds a second over a distance of 5.5km.

Installed in many Navy vessels, Phalanx – seen in the video above – can be used to defend them against missile attacks, sea drones, hostile helicopters, aircraft, and unmanned aerial vehicles.
