Two Killed In US Navy Fighter Jet Crash

A US Navy fighter jet has crashed off the coast of Key West, Florida killing two of its crew members.

The F/A-18F Super Hornet was approaching to land at Boca Chica Field but crashed into the water about a mile east of the runway at 4:30pm US time on Wednesday. 

Rescue crews recovered both pilot and weapons system officer from the water and were taken by ambulance to Lower Keys Medical Centre.

The US Naval Air Forces reported late on Wednesday night that both had died.

The identity of the two crew members is currently being withheld pending notification of the next of kin. 

US Naval Air Forces have said the jet was on a training flight and the cause of the crash is under investigation.

The US president Donald Trump tweeted his condolences to the two crew members who died.
