Zelensky labels the Kremlin 'savages' after devastating wave of air strikes

More than a million buildings in Ukraine were left without power overnight after Russia launched a massive wave of air strikes on the country's energy facilities.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky described the Kremlin as "savages", after Thursday night's attacks.
More than 60 drones and 90 ballistic missiles were fired at major cities, including the country's largest hydroelectric plant.
As well as energy infrastructure, missiles struck residential buildings and factories.
In Zaphorizhzhia, in southern Ukraine, the country's largest hydroelectric plant suffered two direct hits. The dam itself remained intact, but a control room was set on fire.
In Kharkhiv, five people died when a Russian cruise missile hit a print works.
'Europe can provide more'
President Zelensky has urged the West to send more air defences.
The Ukrainian president said: "Unfortunately the use of artillery at the frontline by our soldiers is humiliating for Europe, in the sense that Europe can provide more.
"It is crucial to prove it now. Because if there is enough support for Ukraine, it will show Putin's bodies there will be enough support even if this insane person orders the expansion of aggression to other European countries."
Meanwhile, in Brussels, EU leaders agreed to push forward with plans to use billions of dollars in frozen Russian assets to buy weapons for Ukraine.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the first tranche of money could be released this summer.
"We must continue to support Ukraine's efforts to fight back on the battlefield," she said. "I am glad that leaders endorsed our proposal to use the extraordinary revenues from immobilised Russian assets, this will provide funding for military equipment to Ukraine."
She added: "We can expect to collect around €3bn for 2024 and similar amounts in the future years."
Russian missiles also targeted the capital Kyiv. Officials said 31 ballistic and cruise missiles were shot down but at least 17 people were injured.
