UK-made Storm Shadow cruise missiles have been used by Ukraine to strike targets inside Russian territory, according to reports.

Social media videos and a number of Russian military bloggers have reported locating what is believed to be wreckage of one of the missiles in a town in Russia's western Kursk region.

It comes a day after Ukraine used American Atacms long-range missiles inside Russia after President Biden gave Kyiv permission to deploy the weapons in a major change of policy, weeks before he leaves office.

The Storm Shadow is a bunker-busting, precision-guided, air-launched cruise missile with a range of 250 kilometres.

The British Government is yet to confirm whether or not the missiles have been used.

It has previously refused to reveal if Ukraine would be allowed to use the weapon against targets inside Russia.

But Defence Secretary John Healey told the Commons on Wednesday: "We've seen over recent weeks significant change in the action and in the rhetoric on Ukraine, and Ukraine's action on the battlefield speaks for itself.

"We as a nation and as a government are doubling down on our support for Ukraine and determined to do more.

"I discussed this with [Ukrainian] minister [Rustem] Umerov in a call yesterday where he talked about the robust response that Ukraine is making to recent Russian escalations."

On Tuesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin brought in changes to Moscow's nuclear weapons protocol which lowered the threshold for using his country's nuclear arsenal – the largest in the world – in a retaliatory strike.
