VJ Day: Britain's Forgotten Army who fought on after Second World War ended

Britain's Forgotten Army

When most Britons picture the end of the Second World War, they imagine street parties and Churchill's V-sign on 8 May 1945.

For almost a million British and Commonwealth troops, however, the war was far from over.

From the jungles of Burma, to Pacific islands, and even at sea against Imperial Japan, these brave veterans – including my own grandfather, James Crumlin – endured horrific conditions as prisoners of war.

This is the story of Britain's forgotten army – who continued to fight long after Europe turned away.
