Artefacts rescued from HMS Invincible shipwreck gifted to Royal Navy museum

Thousands of artefacts rescued from the wreck of HMS Invincible have been gifted by the Ministry of Defence (MOD) to the National Museum of the Royal Navy.

The ship went down off Portsmouth in 1758.

The bulk of the recovery effort has been over the past few years, thanks to more than £2m in funding from the National Lottery / LIBOR fund.

That has allowed the Maritime Archaeology Sea Trust, The National Museum of the Royal Navy and Bournemouth University to archaeologically excavate, record and conserve the remains of the ship and contents.

Tim Cooper has been given exclusive behind the scenes access to see how the artefacts are being preserved and learn more about a remarkable ship.
