#IRemember: Defence Secretary Michael Fallon Joins Our Campaign
Defence Secretary Sir Michael Fallon MP and Shadow Defence Secretary Nia Griffith MP have lent their support to Forces Network's #IRemember campaign, which is running as part of this year's remembrance commemorations.
Mr Fallon paid tribute to his parents, who both served during WWII. He said:
"I remember the last war through my parents, who served in that war – my father as a battlefield surgeon, my mother nursing for the Royal Navy."
"I regret that I didn't talk to them enough about what they went through in the war but they served in all of the different theatres. They could be posted anywhere fighting for our freedom, and I will always take pride in the fact that they fought as so many millions of others did at that terrible time."
Ms Griffith made a personal tribute to three soldiers from her Llanelli constituency who lost their lives in action, LCpl Ryan Francis, LCpl David Dennis and Cpl Jamie Kirkpatrick. She said:
"I remember all those who have given their lives in the service of our country but in particular I remember the three young men from my constituency who have died since I became MP, one in Iraq and two in Afghanistan. Two of their families are known personally to me and I find it particularly moving when they walk forward and place their wreathes on the war memorial."
"It’s important that we never forget the sacrifice that all of our servicemen and women who have died in action have made for our country."
