In pictures: King hosts VJ veterans at Windsor to mark 80th anniversary of war's end
The King, Queen and senior royals have honoured veterans of the Far East campaign during a special reception held as part of this year's remembrance commemorations.
The King and Queen were joined by the Prince of Wales, the Duke of Edinburgh and the Duchess of Gloucester for the event at Windsor Castle, which brought together veterans who served in the Pacific theatre and their families.
The reception marked the 80th anniversary of Victory over Japan Day, the day Japan surrendered in August 1945, bringing the Second World War to its final end.
- Remembrance through veterans' eyes: Northern Ireland, Falklands, Gulf, Kosovo, Afghanistan
- VJ Day: Britain's Forgotten Army who fought on after Second World War ended
- The Unknown Warrior: Remembering those who never came home from the battlefield
While Victory in Europe Day in May 1945 marked the defeat of Nazi Germany, VJ Day signified the conclusion of the conflict in the Pacific.
Held during Remembrance week, the reception honoured Pacific veterans as part of the nation's collective reflection on wars, past and present.
The gathering at Windsor Castle provided an opportunity for surviving veterans to share their experiences with members of the Royal Family and to reflect on the enduring legacy of their service.
